Retrospective – Wrapping Up Year 2016

This year, there weren’t much things going on in my life. Most likely it was because of my long-term illnesses that limit my work, social life, travel and others. One of the main reason I quit my permanent job in late 2015 was because of it. As a result, I live with only little savings, which also means no travelling for this year as well. I left with no choice but to sacrifice my passion.

However, one of the good things that I encountered throughout the year was about self-discovery. I spent plenty of time getting to know myself a little bit better, like things that I enjoyed having or stuff that I have always wanted to do but never had the chance. When I did a makeover to this blog this year, it was pleasing to find that writing my profile and describing more about myself was easier.

Mind The Gap: The Years of Blogging

I started to create this blog back in February 2013; close to 4 years now. I couldn’t remember why and how I decided to blog, or if there’s anything particular that influenced me. I went to search from this blog’s archives to read the first thing that I posted. I had many sort of feelings when reading it – it was hilarious for the way my writing was, as if I was talking to myself when I wrote it without thinking about the audience. I was highly ambitious for some reason that I made a long list of New Year’s resolution. Despite that, there were people who reads it. I also noticed some things hadn’t change – in the very first post, I had an excerpt of quotes and a link to the song that I liked. I still do the same now. I am still the same person I was, today.

Here and Now: Year 2016 So Far

I was lounging at Cat Cafes (yes, cat) with a good cup of cappuccino, warm croissants and accompanied by many furry friends. It was remarkably a mind therapy. I was sitting there and they came hugging me (really) with that soft purring, their eyes blinking slowly and then my mind began to sink wondering why I hadn’t done this sooner. It made me think about what I have been doing all these years for missing such comforting moments like this. I thought about last year and this year.

People Who Inspire Me (in Life and Writing)

In my last post, I shared about what I’ve learnt through the journey of Writing. On subsequent posts, I’ll be sharing in-depth about the stuff that I’ve discovered.

For the past 2 months, I’ve been focusing on writing short stories and participating in writing contests. I also bought a new set of printer and some new books, particularly about writing and self-help. I realised from the moment I built up the small workstation in my room, it became a fresh restart – I began to hone in writing; without straining my eyes at the computer or suffering from back pain (the new chair and table really help).
